I am so unbelievably happy to hear of Ryan McLaughlin's nomination for the 'Bighearted Child of the Year award 2009'.
I had the pleasure to see firsthand, how much energy and effort Ryan put into his MS Vitamin D campaign; lobbying the Press and The Scottish Parliament until they listened to him - and listened they did!!! Now the World see's Scotland as a Nation that will not sit on its back-side, accepting a debilitating disease like MS, without fighting back. Ryan has taken this fight on, and he is winning!!!
Without doubt - Ryan is the bravest, kindest, hardest working and most mature teenager I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Ryan is not just an inspiration to all of Scotland’s children - he is an inspiration to every single one of us!
I don’t know what all the other amazing children have achieved to see them nominated, but I’m sure their achievements will be most impressive. I do know what Ryan has achieved, and subsequently I think not only should he be winning this award, but he should also be awarded an MBE or OBE in the Queens Honours List.
Ryan is a boy in a billion, and I am so proud to actually know him. With a generation of children like Ryan behind us - Scotland can look with optimism towards the future.
